We read a story called A and P by John Updike. You can try to find it online.
I gave out questions in class.
Tomorrow we are reading/working on bookclub stuff.
Wednesday will be our final meeting.

Remember your journal assignment is due tomorrow.
Outline and write the 2 body paragraphs of your essay. Make sure that your thesis is clear and debatable.
We did quite a bit of work on this in class today. Remember we have a short story test on Monday.
It will be in Cross Grade format.

Today we reviewed introductory paragraphs.
You need to write your introduction tonight and outline your points for paragraph 1
Make sure that you have a strong, debatable thesis. Make sure that your thesis is connected to your quote.
Tomorrow we will be writing body paragraphs in class.

Today we worked on rewriting our quotes. Remember that you can't use "you" and you can't be directive. You are not telling people what to do. Try to avoid words that limit.  Don't say: "We must" or "Only people who..."
Tonight:
Use a quote that you worked on today or choose one that from the booklet that you feel comfortable working with. Choose 3 pieces of literature that you think might relate to the quote.
List them and then write 3 reasons why they relate.
Review the information in the booklet about writing an introduction.
Remember: Good students don't wait to be told what to do; good students take responsibilty for their own learning.
Tomorrow we are going to work on thesis statements and we will be writing our opening paragraph.
I have changed the test date to Monday next week. This is when we will write the short story essay.
Remember that our short story journal assignment is due on Friday. Bring your first draft of your revised writing to class tomorrow.

Bring your choice of assignment as well.
Write a list of criteria for assessment for your assignment
For example: thematic connection of photos, connection of writing to photos,
Try to consider the visual aspects of the assignments as well

Bring your study sheets to class. You can't use the stories themselves
Thursday we will be reading another short story. If you are going to be on the field trip, I will give it to you tomorrow in class.
Friday we are doing book club work and Monday we are meeting with our book club groups.
We will be finished reading on May 15th and the day after the Cross Grade will be our final book club meeting.

Today we went over the cheat sheet. Make sure that you have it well filled in and that you have a theme statement for each story. If you are not sure, please check with me.
Tonight, look for 2 quotes on the internet. Write them on a piece of paper. Put quote 1 at the top and quote 2 in the middle.
Silent reading tomorrow.  Reading journal 3 is due tomorrow as well.

English 12
Fill in your cheat sheet. Tomorrow we are reading a short story. We will have a practice crossgrade on Wednesday instead of Thursday.
Lit terms quiz tomorrow: repetition to sonnet.
Thursday students who are not on the field trip will work in class on their bookclub section. Others will have to do theirs on their own. We will read another short story on Friday.

Find a picture/a piece of art that you like. Bring a picture on your cellphone. We will be writing a letter to the artist.

Write another fantasy for Walter.

Write a poem about a fantasy.
